Revision

This section will recapitulate the main points studied so far, at the same time adding some more points that were earlier left out to avoid complicating matters.

Definite & Indefintie

A word(noun) is usually definite if it has ال prefixed to it, in which case its final vowel will be single, usually a ــُـ. Otherwise, it will have no ال at the beginning but instead, it will end in double vowels, usually ــٌـ.

Note that this is a general rule; although all proper nouns are definite, they usually have no ال and end in double vowels.

Adjectives

An adjective comes after the noun it qualifies. If more than one adjective qualify a noun, they are separated by the conjunction وَ meaning "and".

Nominal Sentence

A nominal sentence starts with a noun. This noun is usually definite. It is then followed by another noun, or an adjective (which agrees with the first noun). The second noun (or the adjective) is indefinite.

Feminine

A noun is either masculine or feminine; there is no neutre. The gender of a noun denoting a person is clear. Otherwise, we rely on the ending of the word to determine its gender. Usually, feminine nouns will end in ة.

The feminine ending is suffixed to the masculine of nouns/adjectives to form their feminine.
